At the 2012 Convention of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), speakers on a panel entitled, “Improving Inclusion and Accessibility for Muslims with Disabilities,” created and shared a guide entitled, “Where Do We Go From Here?” The guide provides some helpful tips about how to make your mosque or Islamic community center more inclusive of people with disabilities.
In its September/October 2012 issue, the magazine Islamic Horizons published a special feature article entitled, “Promoting Inclusiveness for People with Disabilities,” written by Maggie Siddiqi. The article features stories about several American Muslims with disabilities and words of wisdom by Imam Zaid Shakir of Zaytuna Institute.
That All May Worship: An Interfaith Welcome to People with Disabilities, authored by Ann Davie and Ginny Thornburgh, is a guide that has helped transform congregations of all faiths into places where children and adults with disabilities are welcomed, honored and enjoyed. Since it was first published in 1993, over 70,000 copies of the handbook have been sold and distributed. It is now available online in both HTML and PDF formats.
